Hebrews Chapter 10

Hebrews 10
Recap: Last week we studied Hebrews chapters 8 & 9. We learned that Christ superseded the Levitical law which was the old covenant. God renewed his vows to us and gave us a better covenant by the shed blood from Jesus Christ. He is the perfect sacrifice and the only sacrifice that was able to cleanse us and restore us to back to God.
Verse 1-3
The law wasn't meant to be an everlasting covenant, it had a purpose to serve which was to be a shadow of the new covenant. The law and the sacrifices could never take away sin, instead it reminded us of our sins over and over judging us guilty.
a. Galatians 3:24-25, Romans 3:20, Hebrews 9:11-13
b. Even though they offered a sacrifice every year they were still left with a guilty
conscience and uncertainty.
c. Under the new covenant our conscience is clean because we have faith that
Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice and he paid for all of our sins past, present and
future.
2. Why do you think God allowed them to sacrifice animals even though he knew they weren't sufficient to take away the sins of the people?.
Verse 4-18
3. God did not want the sacrifice of animals or burnt offerings for sin. He had a body prepared already to be the ultimate sacrifice that was Holy and without blemish. Jesus was the only sacrifice that would satisfy the debt we owed God.
a. The animals and burnt offerings couldn't accomplish what Christ accomplished because they weren't capable of being tested neither could they bare our infirmities or carry the sins of the whole world.
Isaiah 53:1-12
b. v.7 Jesus came to do the will of God not by force or under obligation according to the law. That is why his body was able to be the perfect sacrifice is was Holy and without blemish, he wasn't stained with sin.
Philippians 2:5-8
2 Corinthians 5:21
c. God is displeased with the constant offering up of sacrifice and offerings that does not accompany obedience. They are vain offerings that don't bring forth true repentance.
1 Samuel 15:22
Matthew 3:8
Isaiah 1:11-13
? Do you think that Christians offer vain offerings or sacrifices? If so what are ways a Christians offer vain offerings or sacrifices?
d. v 16 In the new covenant we don't have to seek out a prophet or pastor to tell us the word of God, or speak to God for us. God will put his spirit in us that will enable us to be obedient to him and we are reconciled back to him by Jesus Christ.
John 14:26
Isaiah 59:20-21
2 Corinthians 5:18-19
verse 19-38
3. Christ is our great high priest who has saved us from our sins. Therefore we must go after him with perseverance, boldness and a great confidence in his finished work on the cross.
We cant let anything deter us from doing the will of God
Our conscience have been cleaned by the blood of Jesus
God can be trusted to keep his promises
we have to stay connected with members in the body of Christ
4. When we come to the knowledge of Jesus Christ we are guilty of sin when we willfully sin against him.
James 4:17
John 15:22
a. The sacrifice of Jesus is supposed to cleanse you and cover your sins, however when you ignore the sacrifice and continue in sin your sins are not covered because Jesus died once and to keep sinning would be you being reminded of your sin and trying to offer him over and over.
b. It is a sin to reject Christ, but its more worst to know the truth and reject, God is the avenger and he will take vengeance.
Luke 12:47
c.v. 32 It is important for us to keep in remembrance how we felt when we first came to know the Lord. Forgetting our first works could result in a person back sliding.

No matter what we go through we must always remember to glorify God and have hope in the salvation of Jesus Christ.
If we stay steadfast and persevere we should reap a reward that will never pass away. James 1:12
D. v. 37 The return of Jesus is near, we cant pinpoint the exact time, but we do know the signs of his return. We are being warned to remain faithful and live by Faith in Jesus and Hope in eternal salvation.

anyone who goes back out into the world God has no pleasure in them and they were never truly saved in the first place.
